fog line
Pavement boundary marker
A fog line is the white line painted along the right edge of a road, marking the boundary between the travel lane and the shoulder.
The name comes from its usefulness in low visibility—drivers follow it when fog obscures other markers: I kept my eyes on the fog line until the weather cleared.
Also called an edge line.
