fluted column
Vertically grooved support
A fluted column is an architectural column with shallow, vertical grooves carved along its shaft.
The parallel channels create patterns of light and shadow that add visual interest and elegance.
Fluting appears on classical Greek and Roman columns and their many revivals: The courthouse entrance featured tall fluted columns in the Ionic style.
