Recessed electrical access
A floor box is an electrical outlet or junction box installed flush with or recessed into a floor, providing power or data connections in areas away from walls.
Common in offices, conference rooms, and open floor plans where desks or equipment sit in the middle of a room: The electrician installed floor boxes for the new workstations.
