flips the bird
Middle finger salute
Flips the bird means to make an obscene gesture by extending the middle finger while keeping other fingers folded—a sign of contempt, anger, or dismissal: He flipped the bird at the driver who cut him off.
The bird here is the raised finger itself.
Also flips off, gives the finger.
