flagmen
Road crew wavers
Flagmen is the plural of flagman, a person who uses flags or other handheld signals to direct traffic or convey information.
Flagmen most commonly work at construction sites or road work zones, controlling the flow of vehicles around hazards or through single-lane passages.
The term also applies to railroad workers who signal train crews.
The flagmen waved us through one lane at a time.
The gender-neutral alternative flaggers has largely replaced flagmen in official usage.
