flag stop
Signal-only train halt
A flag stop is a train or bus station where vehicles stop only when signaled—by a waiting passenger or someone on board requesting to disembark.
The name comes from the practice of waving a flag to halt the train.
By extension, flag stop describes any small, lightly used station: We got off at a flag stop in the middle of nowhere.
