first degree burn
Superficial skin injury
A first degree burn is the mildest form of burn injury, affecting only the outer layer of skin.
The area becomes red, dry, and painful but doesn't blister.
Sunburn is the most common example.
First degree burns typically heal within a week without scarring: It's just a first degree burn—run it under cool water.
