fire shelter
Wildfire survival cocoon
A fire shelter is a portable emergency device carried by wildland firefighters—a reflective tent-like structure that can be rapidly deployed when escape from an advancing fire becomes impossible.
The shelter reflects radiant heat and traps breathable air, providing temporary protection while the fire passes over.
They deployed their fire shelters when the wind shifted and flames overtook their position.
Fire shelters are a last resort, not a guarantee of survival.
