finalizer

Pre-collection cleanup method

A finalizer is a method or routine that performs cleanup when an object is about to be destroyed, typically releasing resources like file handles or memory that the object was holding.

In garbage-collected languages, finalizers run automatically before the garbage collector reclaims an object: The finalizer closes the database connection.

Also called a destructor in some languages.
