fertilising

Adding plant nutrients

Fertilising is the British spelling of fertilizing, the present participle of fertilise.

It covers two related processes: enriching soil with nutrients to promote plant growth fertilising the garden before spring planting, and the biological process by which sperm unites with an egg to begin reproduction the moment of fertilising the ovum.

Both senses involve adding something essential to enable growth or creation.
