fauvist
Bold color painter
A fauvist is an artist associated with Fauvism, the early 20th-century movement characterized by bold, non-naturalistic color and energetic brushwork.
The term comes from French for "wild beast," originally applied mockingly by critics shocked at the vivid palette of Matisse, Derain, and others: The fauvists painted trees in purple and skies in orange.
