false pregnancy
Imagined maternal state
False pregnancy is a condition in which a person or animal displays signs of pregnancy—missed periods, abdominal swelling, nausea, even feeling fetal movement—without actually being pregnant.
The body mimics pregnancy convincingly enough to fool both the individual and sometimes medical professionals.
Also called pseudocyesis or phantom pregnancy.
The veterinarian diagnosed the dog with a false pregnancy.
