honor thy parents
Respect your elders
Honor thy parents is a biblical injunction—the fifth of the Ten Commandments—directing children to respect and care for their mother and father.
The archaic *thy* gives it a solemn, religious register.
The phrase appears in discussions of filial duty, family values, or generational obligation: I was raised to honor thy parents, but my father made that difficult.
