false awakenings
Waking within dreams
False awakenings are dreams in which you believe you've woken up but haven't.
The dreamer goes through ordinary morning routines—getting out of bed, showering, making coffee—only to actually wake and realize none of it happened.
Sometimes multiple false awakenings occur in sequence: I woke up three times before I was really awake.
The phenomenon often accompanies lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis.
