faja

Traditional waist wrap

A faja is a compression garment worn around the midsection, traditionally a wide cloth sash or girdle in Latin American dress.

In contemporary use, fajas are tight-fitting shapewear designed to flatten the stomach and cinch the waist: She wore a faja under her dress for the wedding.

They're also worn post-surgery to reduce swelling.
