factorizing
Breaking into primes
Factorizing is breaking a number or expression into the factors that multiply together to produce it.
Factorizing 12 yields 2 × 2 × 3; factorizing x² − 9 yields (x + 3)(x − 3).
The spelling with -ize is standard in American English, while British English prefers factorising.
