extrauterine
Beyond the uterus
Extrauterine means occurring or located outside the uterus.
The term appears in medical contexts, particularly regarding pregnancies that implant outside the uterine cavity: an extrauterine pregnancy, more commonly called ectopic.
It also describes fetal development after birth: extrauterine life begins when the baby takes its first breath.
