epicentres

Where tremors begin

Epicentres is the British spelling of epicenters—the plural of epicentre, the point on Earth's surface directly above an earthquake's origin.

The term extends to any focal point of activity or crisis: London and New York were the epicentres of the financial collapse.

Often misused to mean simply "center," though purists insist on the sense of something radiating outward from that point.
