epic songs
Long narrative verses
Epic songs are lengthy narrative poems meant to be sung or chanted, typically recounting heroic deeds, mythological events, or the founding of nations.
The Homeric epics, Beowulf, and the Epic of Gilgamesh originated as oral performances.
The term also applies to modern songs with grand scope or dramatic ambition: The album closes with a ten-minute epic song.
