Joining the military
Enlisting is the act of joining a military service or recruiting others to do so: He's thinking about enlisting in the Marines.
The word extends to securing help or support for any cause: She enlisted her friends to help with the move, enlisting volunteers for the campaign.
The emphasis falls on active recruitment or willing commitment rather than passive participation.
