engine cover
Bonnet over machinery
An engine cover is a panel or housing that shields a vehicle's engine from view and protects it from debris.
In cars, it's often a plastic shroud over the top of the engine bay, sometimes called an engine beauty cover when primarily cosmetic.
On boats, the engine cover encloses the motor compartment.
Aircraft have cowlings that serve the same function.
