emersed
Rising from liquid
Emersed describes aquatic plants or plant parts that rise above the water's surface, as opposed to submerged growth that remains underwater.
Many aquatic species grow differently depending on conditions—emersed leaves are typically stiffer and waxier than their submerged counterparts: The emersed portion of the water lily pad floats on the surface.
The term appears mainly in botany and aquarium keeping.
