embedded reporter
Military-attached correspondent
An embedded reporter is a journalist attached to a military unit during combat operations, traveling and living with soldiers while covering the conflict.
The arrangement grants close access to frontline action but raises questions about independence—reporters may self-censor or develop sympathies that color their coverage.
Embedded reporters filed dramatic footage from the invasion.
The practice became widespread during the 2003 Iraq War.
