electromagnetic pulse
Electronics-destroying energy wave
An electromagnetic pulse is a burst of electromagnetic energy that can disrupt or damage electronic equipment and electrical systems.
Such pulses occur naturally from lightning strikes or solar flares, but the term most often refers to the effect of nuclear detonations at high altitude, which can disable electronics across wide areas.
Military and survivalist contexts frequently invoke EMP as a catastrophic threat to modern infrastructure.
Often abbreviated EMP.
