electoral commission
Election monitoring body
An electoral commission is an official body that oversees elections, typically responsible for administering voting, counting ballots, enforcing election laws, and certifying results.
Most democracies have one at the national level, though the name and scope vary: The electoral commission announced preliminary results.
In the U.S., the Federal Election Commission regulates campaign finance but doesn't administer elections—that falls to state officials.
