egg-bound
Unable to lay
Egg-bound describes a bird unable to expel an egg from its reproductive tract—a potentially fatal condition in poultry and pet birds.
The egg becomes stuck, often due to calcium deficiency, oversized eggs, or muscular weakness.
Signs include straining, lethargy, and a swollen abdomen.
The hen looked egg-bound, so we called the vet.
