edge of the world
Where maps end
The edge of the world is the imagined boundary where the earth ends—a concept from flat-earth cosmology where travelers might fall off into void.
Now used figuratively for extremely remote places: They live at the edge of the world, three hours from the nearest town.
Also describes limits of knowledge or experience: Early mapmakers marked the edge of the world with monsters.
