earthquake alert
Tremor notification system
An earthquake alert is a warning issued when seismic activity is detected or predicted, giving people seconds to minutes to take protective action before shaking arrives.
Modern systems use sensor networks to detect initial tremors and broadcast alerts to phones and public warning systems: My phone's earthquake alert went off just before the shaking started.
Also called an earthquake warning.
