earthen floors
Soil underfoot indoors
Earthen floors are floors made of compacted soil, clay, or similar natural materials rather than wood, concrete, or tile.
They appear in traditional construction worldwide and have seen revival in sustainable building.
A properly finished earthen floor can be sealed and hardened to a durable surface: The old farmhouse still had its original earthen floors.
