duodenal ulcers
Small intestine lesions
Duodenal ulcers are open sores that form in the lining of the duodenum, the first section of the small intestine just beyond the stomach.
They cause burning pain in the upper abdomen, typically between meals or at night when the stomach is empty.
Most are caused by bacterial infection or prolonged use of anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen: The doctor prescribed antibiotics for his duodenal ulcer.
