drumming out
Dishonorable discharge ritual
Drumming out is expelling someone from an organization in disgrace, especially from military service.
The phrase comes from the historical practice of literally drumming a dishonored soldier out of camp while his insignia were stripped.
Now used broadly for any shameful dismissal: He was drummed out of the company after the scandal came to light.
