cis-trans isomerism

Spatial arrangement variation

Cis-trans isomerism is a type of stereoisomerism in chemistry where molecules have the same atoms and bonds but different spatial arrangements around a rigid structure, typically a double bond or ring.

In the cis form, similar groups lie on the same side; in the trans form, they're on opposite sides.

Cis-trans isomerism explains why some fats are solid and others liquid at room temperature.
