double-pole
Twin-contact electrical switch
Double-pole describes an electrical switch or circuit breaker that controls two separate circuits simultaneously, or both the hot and neutral wires of a single circuit.
Double-pole switches are used for high-voltage appliances like electric dryers and water heaters: You'll need a double-pole breaker for that 240-volt outlet.
The term distinguishes from single-pole, which controls only one circuit or wire.
