door latch
Keeps doors closed
A door latch is the mechanism that holds a door closed, typically a spring-loaded bolt that clicks into a strike plate when the door shuts.
Unlike a deadbolt, a latch can be retracted by turning the handle without a key: The door latch didn't catch, and the wind blew it open.
Latches range from simple thumb latches on gates to the beveled bolts in modern locksets.
