doomsday cult

A doomsday cult is a religious or spiritual group organized around belief in an imminent apocalypse or end of the world.

Members typically follow a charismatic leader who claims special knowledge of when and how destruction will come.

Such groups often isolate themselves from mainstream society, sometimes ending in mass suicide or violence: The compound raid exposed another doomsday cult stockpiling weapons.
