fake guru
False wisdom peddler
A fake guru is someone who presents themselves as a spiritual teacher, life coach, or expert while lacking genuine knowledge, credentials, or ethical foundation.
The term implies exploitation—charging money for empty wisdom, promising transformation without delivering, or using followers for personal gain.
Common in wellness culture, self-help circles, and online spaces where charisma substitutes for substance: He built a following selling courses, but people eventually realized he was just another fake guru.
The phrase carries contempt for both the deceiver and the ecosystem that enables them.
