Maritime pita wrap
A donair is a Canadian fast food, especially associated with Halifax, consisting of spiced ground beef cooked on a vertical rotisserie, shaved into thin slices, and served in pita bread with tomatoes, onions, and a distinctive sweet sauce made from condensed milk, garlic, and vinegar.
It evolved from the Middle Eastern doner kebab brought by Lebanese and Greek immigrants: We grabbed donairs after the bar closed.
The spelling distinguishes the Canadianized version from its Turkish ancestor.
