dogtrot
Slow, steady pace
A dogtrot is a gentle, easy-paced trot—the kind of unhurried gait a dog might maintain over distance.
The word also names a style of American folk architecture: a house with two separate rooms or cabins connected by a covered, open-air breezeway.
The breezeway provided ventilation in hot climates and was sometimes used as a shaded outdoor living space: The old dogtrot house still stood at the edge of the property.
