slubbing
Creating yarn irregularities
Slubbing is the process of drawing out and slightly twisting fiber into a loose, soft rope called a slub or roving, an intermediate step in spinning yarn.
The term also refers to the product itself—the thick, uneven strand ready for further processing.
In textiles, slubbing can describe deliberately creating irregular thick spots in yarn for decorative effect: The slubbing gives the fabric its rustic texture.
