djinns

Arabian magical beings

Djinns is the plural of djinn, supernatural beings in Islamic and Arabic mythology—spirits created from smokeless fire, capable of appearing in human or animal form.

They possess free will and can be benevolent, malevolent, or neutral.

Western fantasy often uses the anglicized genie, but djinn (also jinn) preserves the Arabic character: The djinns of the desert were said to mislead travelers.
