dihydrate

Double water compound

A dihydrate is a chemical compound that incorporates two molecules of water into its crystal structure.

Many salts and minerals exist as dihydrates: calcium sulfate dihydrate is the mineral gypsum, copper sulfate dihydrate forms blue crystals.

The prefix di- indicates two, distinguishing it from monohydrates (one water molecule) or other hydrated forms.
