digital pet
Screen-based creature care
A digital pet is a virtual creature that exists on a screen—in a handheld device, video game, or app—requiring care and attention from its owner.
The Tamagotchi, introduced in the 1990s, popularized the concept: users feed, clean, and play with their pet to keep it alive and healthy.
Neglect has consequences; the pet may become sick or die.
Digital pets range from simple pixelated creatures to sophisticated companions in games and simulations.
