desulfurize
Extract sulfur compounds
To desulfurize is to remove sulfur or sulfur compounds from something, typically fuel or industrial emissions.
The process reduces pollution from burning fossil fuels: Power plants desulfurize exhaust gases to meet environmental standards.
Also spelled desulphurise in British English.
