desk sergeant
Precinct front officer
A desk sergeant is a police officer, usually of sergeant rank, who works at the front desk or booking area of a police station rather than patrolling the streets.
The desk sergeant handles administrative duties, processes arrests, logs incoming prisoners, and serves as the first point of contact for people entering the station.
The desk sergeant looked up from his paperwork when we walked in.
