deleading

Removing toxic coating

Deleading is the process of removing lead-based materials, especially paint, from buildings.

Lead paint was common before its health risks were understood, and deleading became standard practice in older homes and schools: The landlord was required to complete deleading before the family could move in.

Also spelled de-leading.
