degree mill
Fake university operation
A degree mill is an institution that sells academic degrees, diplomas, or credentials with little or no legitimate coursework required.
These operations typically charge fees in exchange for certificates that appear official but carry no educational value or accreditation.
The term is pejorative, implying fraud or at minimum a shortcut that undermines genuine academic achievement.
His résumé listed an impressive doctorate, but it turned out to be from a degree mill.
