deep-sixing

Throwing away forever

Deep-sixing is discarding something completely, disposing of it so it won't resurface: They deep-sixed the incriminating documents.

The term comes from nautical slang—six fathoms deep, enough to ensure something sinks and stays gone.

It often implies deliberate destruction or burial of something inconvenient: The committee deep-sixed the proposal before it reached a vote.
