deep-freezing

Preserving by cold

Deep-freezing is preserving food or other materials by freezing them at very low temperatures, typically below -18°C.

The term applies both to the process and to storage in a deep freezer: Deep-freezing the berries keeps them fresh for months.

Figuratively, to deep-freeze something is to put it on hold indefinitely: The project has been deep-frozen until funding comes through.
