decorative frame

A decorative frame is a border designed to enhance or ornament what it contains—typically a picture, mirror, or photograph.

Unlike plain frames meant merely to hold something in place, decorative frames feature carved wood, gilded surfaces, ornate moldings, or other embellishments that draw attention: The painting deserved a decorative frame worthy of its beauty.
