deadfalls
Weighted animal traps
Deadfalls are traps designed to kill animals by dropping a heavy weight—typically a log or stone—when triggered.
The mechanism usually involves bait attached to a trigger stick; when an animal disturbs it, the weight falls and crushes the prey.
Deadfall also refers to a mass of fallen trees and tangled branches, often from storms or natural decay: We had to navigate through deadfall blocking the trail.
